        Important Notice:

Three Shadows Artist-in-Residence Program collaborates with institutes since 2013. We no longer accept individual applications directly. Institutes and individuals who are interested in this program, please contact us for more information.

The Three Shadows Photography Art Centre is the first art space solely dedicated to photography and video art in China. It aims to become China's most professional and comprehensive platform for the promotion of contemporary photography art.

The Centre therefore offers an Artist-in-Residence Program to provide international photographers, artists, curators, and academics with an opportunity to live and work in China.

Artists working in photography and video art will have access to:
        • Fully furnished living quarters
        • Customized individual support to help complete independent projects
We give artists more than just a place to live. At the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, you will enjoy all the benefits of a 4,600 square meter art space dedicated entirely to photography and video arts.

Our facilities include a main exhibition hall of 1,300 square meters used for thematic exhibitions from China and abroad, China's largest Library of Contemporary Photography with over 5,000 books, journals, and catalogues, a state-of-the-art professional publishing house dedicated to producing collectible, limited edition, and popular photography books, a multi-purpose room for lectures, seminars, and presentations, a gallery, a full-service café, and a bookstore.

Three Shadows also fosters a rich community of creative individuals. Through our lectures, seminars, workshops, and renowned outdoor summer concert series, we have built a widespread network of friends from both China and abroad.

The objective of the artist-in-residence program is to support the artistic process and enrich this community. Resident artists are encouraged to design a unique program, which may range from work on new commissions, collaborations between artist and communities, to teaching residencies emphasizing workshops and master classes.

We will provide the facilities and community for you to complete your project, introduce you to a far-reaching community of creative individuals, assist you in obtaining resources and materials, support collaborations with organizations and individuals based in Beijing, and help promote your work in China.

The Three Shadows program is managed on a not-for-profit basis. Participants are expected to cover the costs of living and studio fees, while Three Shadows provides all the necessary support to make your time in Beijing fruitful and enjoyable.
